Aundrea Bell - Projects, Exhibitions & Participations
ARTIST STATEMENT
My practice is rooted in ceramic sculpture and in forms that carry memory in their shape—animals, vessels, architectural fragments, and markers. Drawing on older visual languages, I explore how these forms remain active in the present. Through scale, surface, and repetition, the sculptures move between artefact and organism, body and object, holding traces of deep time and lived experience.
Clay is not simply a medium within my practice, but part of the thinking itself. I build forms by hand, often reducing them to matte, distilled surfaces that retain traces of touch, time, and transformation through fire. Meaning emerges through this negotiation between maker and material.
PROJECTS
Menae Vessel (Aryballos)
Dimensions: 12×7 cm (approx.)
A pin marks a place without defining it. Pin (Harpy) draws on this simple gesture. Its tapering ceramic form invites orientation rather than explanation, occupying an ambiguous territory between sculpture, architecture, and artefact.
Relief images of harpies appear on opposing faces of the work. As hybrid beings associated with wind, transition, and passage, they reinforce the sculpture’s relationship to movement, threshold, and presence.
Pin (Harpy) offers a point of orientation around which significance gathers through repeated passage, attention, and acts of marking.
